Donna Rice Hughes has endorsed Donald Trump for president despite all of his flaws, she said. The motivational speaker and film producer became a media sensation in 1987 when her involvement in a cheating scandal derailed the presidential campaign of Democratic candidate former Senator Gary Hart, who was seeking the nomination of his party.
At the time, Hughes was known as “the woman on the senator’s lap.” She turned down many offers to sell her story about the extramarital affair, and she eventually married her husband, Jack Hughes, in 1994.
Over the years, she grew more conservative in her political views and became an advocate for Internet safety and the protection of children against exposure to pornography.
As a pro-life Christian woman, Hughes said the choice for her has always been clear. Moreover, the presence of Mike Pence on the GOP ticket made things even easier, but she does understand that some women were turned off by a few of Mr. Trump’s comments.
However, she is urging them not to stay undecided because this election is going to decide the future of this great country. For the CEO of Enough Is Enough (EIE) every vote matters Tuesday and no one can afford to watch things happen and not participate. During an appearance on MSNBC Saturday, she shared: “I think you can’t really say one is worse than the other.” She also added: “For me as a conservative, I look at who Trump has surrounded himself with, Mike Pence, really smart people.”
If those words may seem lukewarm, her support for the New York billionaire is not. Hughes published an opinion piece via Fox News‘ website to explain why she is backing a man, who seems to be the polar opposite of the things that she is pushing. The 58-year-old Virginia native wrote: “God is in the business of using flawed people who He humbled and molded into great leaders.”
Online liberal commenters were quick to attack Hughes for being irrelevant, but Trump’s supporters applauded her for wanting to make America great again.
